The Meon Valley Railway Revisited

by Denis Tillman

A new offering on a much loved and still lamented route.  The Meon Valley line closed to passengers as far back as 1955, yet its meandering course through this beautiful Hampshire valley can still be traced (and walked) today.

Using a new collection of unpublished photographs showing the route in the period 1903 to 1955, Denis Tillman has made an imaginary journey from Fareham northwards to Alton, depicting the line and its infrastructure at varying periods prior to closure.

“A very pleasant and modestly priced return to a Southern cross-country line.”  Railway Modeller
